Four people were killed in Kenya's capital when security forces opened fire and deployed teargas to disperse massive crowds at a venue where political figure Raila Odinga's corpse was displayed for homage.

Assemblies also occupied adjacent streets and attempted to breach parliament, where the government had first arranged the community homage.

Political Heritage and Community Backing

While predominantly identified as an opposition figure, Odinga assumed the role of head of government in 2008 and also established a political pact with Ruto last year in a career characterized by changing partnerships.

He generated strong loyalty among adherents, especially in his cultural background based in western Kenya, many of whom maintain he was denied the highest office by vote manipulation.
